Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • My loved one is very sociable. What activities do you offer?

In every Franklin Care Group care home we believe that activity should be at the centre of the care we provide. The activities offered vary by home, but each day is packed with activities, planned and organised by our dedicated lifestyle teams.  If there are activities your loved one has always done, for example seeing a friend for coffee every Tuesday or watching a certain TV programme every week, we will do our best to include this in our plans and facilitate these interests.

  • What furniture can I bring with me?

Although your safety and care is our paramount concern, we want you to feel as ‘at home’ as possible at Franklin Care Homes. We will do our best to accommodate any items you want to bring with you, but they do have to be small items. However, you are welcome to bring as many pictures as you can fit onto the walls.

  • Can you cope with special diets?

Special diets are supplied to several of our residents. Some are diabetic and others need a low fat diet, or other nutritional considerations. We always respect a resident’s preference and we ensure there is always a good choice of food available. Although we don’t specialise in religious dietary requirements, we do our best to cater for all needs.

  • What are the visiting times at Franklin Care Homes?

We are open to visits from your family and friends at any time. However, we suggest they avoid the lunch period unless you’ve made a prior arrangement for them to join you then. You are also free to go out with your visitors but we will need you to let us know that you’re going out and when you expect to be back.

  • Will I have to leave the Care Home if my health deteriorates?

It is rare for a long term resident to have to leave us. It only happens if long term specialist nursing care is needed. If you require hospital care, we will arrange that for you. On your return, a District Nurse can attend to any short term nursing needs. We are also trained to take care of those suffering from Dementia, at a specialised facility within the Franklin Care Homes themselves.

  • I am self funded. What happens if my money runs out?

Our intention is never to ask a resident to leave for financial reasons and we deal with all individual situations sensitively. Initially we will review the financial position and request that a close relative, or friend, meets any deficit. However, when your resources fall below £23,000, you should be entitled to support from your local authority, although a third party contribution may still be needed to pay our full fees. If the local authority won’t assist you, or a third party contribution isn’t possible, we do have access to our charitable fund in order to help meet your costs.

  • My loved one is very religious, can you support this?

Yes. Religious and spiritual beliefs will be respected by our team members. If there are any religious groups they wish to attend or maintain contact with, we will do our best to make sure this happens.

  • My loved one has always had the same doctor, can they keep seeing them?

They can, provided that your chosen care home is within their catchment area.  If not, we have excellent relationships with our local surgeries and can support you to register with them.  We can also support you with any new registration needed for a dentist and offer optical services, provided in-house by our nominated company, should you require them.

  • Can I take my mother/father/relative out?

Definitely. As long as there are no medical reasons that might prevent this, we always encourage trips out and know how much our residents enjoy a change of scene. All we ask is that you give us advance warning so we can ensure they are properly prepared and that we know roughly when to expect them back.

  • Are they able to get a telephone in their bedroom?

Yes all of our rooms are equipped with a telephone point, which means all you need to do is arrange for a telephone line to be installed in their bedroom.

  • Do you provide hairdressing and chiropody?

Yes. A little pampering makes everyone feel good, which is why our hairdresser is on site every fortnight. She offers a full range of services including cutting, blow-dry, sets and perms. Hairdressing services are offered for both ladies and gentlemen.

Chiropody can be organised, but also you can keep your private chiropodist if you prefer. All you have to do is let the office know when they will be visiting.

Residents would need their own funds which are kept in the safe for hairdressing and chiropody services.
